Having agreed this with the captains on the following day at dawn they all disembarked with their men, the first being those of Garcia Coutinho and Dom João de Silveira. These the governor sent ahead, whilst he disembarked at the rear. As he ordered that no-one should move these men until himself had landed the men all remained on the beach. When the Arabs saw this, they began to fire a ten cannon shots at them from the ships that were grounded, and others appeared in the street entrances. When the governor saw this, he stopped what he was doing because there seemed to be people in the town who had not fled. At last he sent Dom Garcia and Dom João to seek out the Arabs, each to go a separate way. But they did not have to do this, because the governor detained them so long in deciding this. Gaspar da Silva, Aires da Silva and Antonio Ferreira Sogaca could not endure the clamour and noise the Arabs were making and sent their men elsewhere.
