_ 91 _ Item: The Captain-General stayed to dispatch the cargo ships and left Cochin on 8th January. He sailed to the Straits in the galley, of which I was the captain, accompanied by other galleys, a fusta, a junk and a Malabari nau. Having left provisions in the fortresses of Calicut and Cannanore, this squadron went direct to Goa. Item: On 15th January, another squadron, consisting of two ships, a fusta, a caravel with lateen sails, a large cargo boat and a small brigantine, left for Goa. Translation of pp. 409-10 Item: Sir, the entire fleet assembled in Goa. There we finished taking on all the supplies biscuits, meat, rice, butter, water needed by the fleet. We left, Sir, on 8th February, bound for the Straits. Item: Sir, we arrived in Socotra on 1st March, where we took on water and left for Aden on 4th March, arriving there on 11th. We found Aden in a favourable mood for us to put ashore. They thus came out to receive us, saying that they were at Your Highness’s service, and they gave us water and pilots to take us to Jidda.
