_ 135 _ three thousand machiados are at work continually; and that the Turk sends from Constantinople sails, cordage, artillery, munitions, and all the things necessary for the said fleet; and that four thousand camels transport all the timber from Roseto and from Alexandria to Suez; and that two thousand go, and two thousand come, so that all the four thousand camels are employed in the transport of the timber, and the things necessary for the said fleet; and he declares that the Turk send in this his fleet three thousand Janijars [?] warrior men besides those of the rowers, and besides what he sends out for these. He says he has already made provision for the maintenance of the aforesaid, without taking or breaking in, at any of the lands and places of the Red Sea, and as Captain of the fleet goes the Governor of Cairo who is a eunuch, they say he is a devilish sort of man, and in his place at Cairo there goes as Governor the one of Feterdar, and to India, it is said Alsaym in his company, and that he is to leave him in Cairo and return to Constantinople with this said fleet; this man states that on its conclusion it will proceed at once directly in search of the fleet of the King of Portugal, wherever it may be.
