_ 140 _ Item: It is said that the large Galaeas of these Venezians which are now expected from Barute and from Alexandria do not bring spices of any kind and come laden with beans, and here spice is grown, and there is little in the city; this land is engaged now in no trade, nor is money in circulation, nor merchandize, and these here say, that the King of Portugal has made more war on them than any other Prince of the World, and all for spicery; they further say, that the galleys of Barute brings some, but purchased at a very high price. Item: It was said here, these days back that the Turk is arming, twenty light galleys in order to send them to the Archipelago, and it is said they will come in May and later on, however as it is now winter, it is a thing which is not greatly believed.
