Henrique de Meneses, regarding slaves who convert to Christianity:(21) I have been informed that the merchants and residents of Ormuz have been complaining of their treatment with regard to their male and female slaves who become and remain Christians. I have also been told that what happens in such cases is that once they are Christians they are evaluated, and Portuguese Christians buy them at that valuation and the price is paid to their owners, and they remain slaves to the Christians who buy them in this way.
