_ 228 _ Having rebelled this Hamid Pasha had been killed by Camusai, an Arab Moor and native of Aleppo. He was the chief treasurer of Cairo, who prior to killing him had written of his rebellion and how he had decided to do this. Having done the deed, he sent Hamid Pasha's head to the Sultan with letters saying how he had killed him. This message was intercepted on its way by Soleiman Pasha whom the Sultan was sending with an armada of twelve ships in support of Camusai. When Soleiman found this message, he was sending it to the sultan he took the letter and tore them up. With Hamid Pasha's head he returned to Constantinople and told the sultan that he had killed Hamid Pasha himself. Thus, the suItan gave him the powers that Hamid Pasha had had. From this time there was great enmity between Camusai and Soleiman, who although he was a great lord was seventy years old and so fat that after sitting down, he could not get up and two men had to lift him. He had such a huge dewlap that it fell on his chest. He was also so greedy for glory and money that to rise even further he wanted to take India from the Portuguese and be the lord of all the many and great treasures there. Thus, he asked for this enterprise from the Sultan with the condition that he would pay himself the cost of the men in the armada.
