_ 109 _ State is equal to the King of China, conqueror of all human wars, Great King of Justice, greater than all the Kings of the World, the key of the treasure that exists on the earth, which is virtue and nobility. The beads by which is made prayer in order to know how to reign. The purity of the waters of the Kingdom, and the architect of the dwellings of cities. The casket wherein is enclosed the most fine and precious emerald. The sun of justice and of truth. The high bulwark and Defender of all. The clear fountain that preserves the purity of the world, whether of the cities or of the desert. The hope in one only God, and Him most trusted high King D. João, whom may God support in his Kingdom restfully and peacefully. Always do his gifts succour the poverty of the world, under whose shelter I take refuge, and my good fate lies in being enveloped in his shadow, and thus to gather my finest fruit which is watered with the stream of his favour: and I know that the favour of my King of Portugal abides with me, and has set me in very great hopes. Hence from all these ways I have seen that I am bound to be conformed with his things, and to place the Kingdom and its wealth at his services and the noble palace of the King of Portugal shall I hold as my own dwellings, and right, and not depart a hairs breadth from my duty.
