_ 128 _ want to pay the rents to the owners. He asked me to order that this be attended to, so that neither he nor his servants may be subjected to such offensive behavior. Having looked at this request I resolve and order, in this letter, that from now on my Captains, officials and persons of whatever standing and condition, may not take possession of, nor order to be seized, any houses, either from the King, or from his servants and slaves against their will. Thus do I also resolve and order that all the Portuguese and all my vassals, who are in my service, or doing business in that city in the Kingdom of Ormuz, and who lodge in rented houses, are to pay the owners of these houses everything which they agreed to pay them as rent, at the times which were agreed upon between them. Thus do I notify my Captain-in-Chief and Governor in the lands in India, the Chief Magistrate, Captain and Crown Judge in the city of Ormuz, and all other officials and persons to whom this letter is shown and to whom it corresponds to have knowledge of this. I order them thus to comply and to enforce total compliance and respect, in accordance with what is contained herein without raising doubt or obstructions, because such is my pleasure.
