The Portuguese in the Sea of Oman

_ 147 _ EI Katiff. Your Lordship must deal with this, because it is wrong to leave Ra’is Mamude with the thirty thousand pardaos which Bahrain brings him when it belongs to the King of Ormuz. Your Lordship must send writ to Ra’is Mamude, to whom many have been sent, to tell him to come here at once to make obeisance to the King and pay him all he owes him, and if he does not come that you hold him to be a rebel; and you must order me that it he des not obey Your Lordship’s writ I should go and take Bahrain, because with Our Lord’s help I will capture it in far fewer days than I took to seize EI Katiff. You must also write to the Guazil to give me all possible help to take it. I consider the Guazil to be such a local and devoted servant of our lord the King that he will be delighted to accompany me himself. Please do not fail to respond to this matter as you think right. It is something which concerns Your Lordship closely. António Mendes will give Your Lordship a full account and information on all I have written, and about everything else that concerns this kingdom, so I shall say no more than may Our Lord increase Your Lordship’s life and elate for many days. From Ormuz, 4 September 1545. Luís Falcão
