_ 228 _ of Mercy came to me urgently petitioning that this coin should be accepted at seventeen pardaus the quintal, as it was at first. I brought these requests and arguments to the notice of Your Highness's attorney, for he, with the arguments he brought to bear, was on the side of the city and demonstrated by his arguments that for the coin to be minted at this price was very much against Your Highness's interests. For the good of your Treasury, it was essential to reduce it immediately, and he brought many legal arguments to bear on this. When this had been discussed, I ordered all Your Highness's captains, noblemen and officials to assemble and asked them what I should do in this matter. They gave me many obvious reasons why I should order [the value of] this coin to be reduced. They believed that it caused loss of land and diminished Your Highness's Treasury and profit, and there was not one person of any standing whatsoever in all India who held the opposite opinion. I therefore reduced it to its former price. Extensive reports on all this were made, which include everything, and I am sending these to Your Highness, so that I am not giving you further account of this matter.
