The Shah's agent and his goods are detained, as I have told Your Lordship, because it seemed to be for the good and safety of this land and in the interests of our Lord the King to keep him here until matters between this Kingdom and Lar are settled. He says that Lar and this Kingdom belong to Shah Tahmasp and it is right that the lands of one Lord should be at peace and not rob each other nor seize each other's fortresses. He is now writing to the King of Lar about this, expressing surprise that he should have seized a fortress of this Kingdom without the command and permission of the Shah. This is how matters stand at present. God grant that they be brought to a successful end, because in this country we need peace rather than war, and this has to be worked for as far as possible, and when nothing else can be done, we must commend ourselves to God, that everything may turn out [as we wish]. Yesterday, 20th of this month, a terrada arrived from Basra with horses, and it brought the news that until now the King of Basra has been very fearful that the Turks of Baghdad would attack him.
