_ 481 _ (86) Document no. and reference. In the same year (1546) Luis Falcao sent a letter to the Governor D. Joao de Castro, Ormuz, on the 14th of December 1546, stating the arrival of the Turks in Algeria near Basra:(86) Sir, On the eighth of this month of December a man I had in Basra as factor arrived here. He leaves the Turks four days' journey from Basra, at a fortress called [Maxadaly]. As soon as they arrived there they wrote this letter to the King of [Gizar] which I am sending to Your Lordship and also the letter which the King of [Gizar] wrote to me. From these Your Lordship can see these people's intentions. No one knows how many of them there are, for some say there are twenty thousand and others ten; others say fewer, so that only Our Lord knows the truth about this. They are bringing by sea one hundred and fifty small ships
