_ 487 _ Lordship's concern, he suggested that I was treating him badly. I shall inform Your Lordship about what happened to Nuno da Cunha, God forgive him, and Nuno Furtado. They were on bad terms with each other because of some malicious gossip. When Nuno da Cunha was leaving for Diu, Nuno Furtado told Luis Xira, a captain of a galleon, that he wanted to go with him. He replied that he could not take him since he had fallen out with the Governor, who was no longer his friend. Nuno da Cunha learnt what had happened and sent a message to Nuno Furtado that if he embarked in Luis Xira's galleon he would turn it over to him. He was also sending orders for Luis Xira to be lashed to the mast and for everything in the galleon to be taken from him, unless Nuno Furtado himself interceded with Nuno da Cunha. I am relating this story to Your Lordship to ask you a favour. If, by chance, you think that I can lodge a complaint about some wrongs that I believe you did me, and if when you have finished reading this letter you have no doubts, I swear as the Christian that I am and by the religion that I profess, that I am your servant, just as I always was, and that I do not believe you have caused me any harm.
