_ 507 _ believe that Your Lordship achieved it miraculously and by a special grace and favour of God, and that He intervened in this as He did with Gideon, the captain of the people of Israel, in that famous victory that He gave them against the Amalekites. Blessed be the Lord God for everything that He chose to have Your Lordship rather than Gideon save, guard and defend His people who are surrounded in these lands by so many wicked enemies. Fortunate are we, and more than fortunate, on whom He daily bestows so many favours. And this, the greatest of all, was for our salvation and for the whole of this region, and it was His wish that at such a moment we should find ourselves in the keeping and under the protection of Your Lordship's power. May God increase and improve it for His service and for Your Lordship's honour. Sir, events like this, which gave such happiness and pleasure to all, cannot be described or expressed in words. I shall therefore not recount the great joy and satisfaction that your victory gave us and the many thanks and praise that are due, after God, to your great and illustrious name.
