_ 114 _ In the same year (1547) Hajji Sheikh sent a letter to the Governor in Malindi, on the 30th of August 1547, offering himself that he wanted to fight with the Portuguese:(24) Sir, I have been given a letter here from you in which you tell me that you are prepared to do all that I request of you. I greatly rejoice at this, knowing from it that I have you as a friend, as all the captains and governors of my Lord and brother the King of Portugal have been. I thank you very much for it, and I hold it as a sign of great friendship that you have done me the favour of writing and of giving me money beyond counting. Here I have heard of Your Lordship’s great victory against the Sultan of Gujerat, which made me more pleased than anything. I am so much a friend of my Lord the King (24) Document no. and reference.
