The Portuguese in the Sea of Oman

_ 118 _ myself have always had for the Portuguese, and that the King of Portugal always commends us to his captains and governors. We have always been helped by them, so that it was right that we should be friends and servants of the King of Portugal, both because we had reason to be, and as an example to this coast. We have learned of the great wars and troubles that took place in the fortress of Diu, and the victory and conquest that happened there. May the Lord God grant that this will always be so and give you strength and triumph over your enemies so that you will always be the victor among them. We all hope this so that truth and justice may then be observed among the Portuguese. In our mosques and temples we pray and will always ask God to give you victory against those who fight him. I beg Your Lordship to write to me and to send news of how you are and what you need there, for if you do, believe me, all we kaffirs, young and old, will leave our homes and occupations and wives and children and march to help you with our feeble strength. We shall always be the obedient servants and subjects of our Lord the King of Portugal. Since Your Lordship is so ready to do good to those who come to you, I ask you again that if this nephew of mine begs you for aid you will help and favour him, as we hope he will be
