The Portuguese in the Sea of Oman

_ 145 _ press the king to give them to you, and if Your Lordship asks all this it will come to a good conclusion. If the king does not want me here and wishes to harm me, I shall go to Cambay or Cota Quilon or Camomba ,and from there I will do everything in the service of the king of Portugal. If I am there Your Lordship will in this manner do a service to the captains of Cannanore, to them and to those who come and leave me in peace; and all the things they request of you, safe–conducts and everything else, because it cannot be to the disservice of the King of Portugal. Your Lordship should be aware that along all this coast there are many ships which will take pepper to the other coast. Your Lordship should send a good fleet, and quickly, to defend the coast so that the King of Portugal can count on further profit apart from that from pepper and ginger. I remind Your Lordship of this more than any thing else. May God increase the days of Your Lordship’s life and your estate as Your Lordship desires. Written 15 September 1547, [Goripo], Guazil of Cannanore (177v) To my Lord, the Governor, From the guazil of Cannanore.
