_ 166 _ In the same year (1547) Fernao da Susa sent a letter to the Viceroy from Goa, dated September 1547, and his opinion was not to boycott:(39) I am not sure that the loss that the Turks who are in Basra will suffer if merchandise or Portuguese are not allowed to go there, but I see clearly that Our Lord the King will suffer a great loss in his custom houses by having Basra closed, as will all the other Portuguese who trade in India, by which all of us live. So, it seems to me that Your Lordship should allow trade with Basra and give permission for ships to sail to and from there. Fernão de Sousa (39) Document no. and reference.
