_ 194 _ In the same year (1547) Dom Diogo de Almeida sent a letter to the Viceroy, from Goa, on the 30th of September 1547, mentioning his rejection of the movement of ships between Ormuz and Basra:(49) Sir, As to what I think, about this business of ships plying between Basra and Ormuz, I maintain that in no way whatsoever there should be any shipping or trade with Basra, because its people are so evil that it is not a good idea for us to share their friendship or have contact with them. Your Lordship must have received reasons for this from people who know Ormuz. That is my opinion. Done today, in Goa, on the last day of September 1547.
