_ 231 _ In the same year (1547) Simao Botelho, the Chief Treasurer, sent a letter to King D. João III, Basin, on the 30th of November 1547, mentioning how the Turks had reached the occupation of Basra:(59) I refrain from writing to Your Highness concerning the affairs of Ormuz and Basra, and the manner in which the Turks captured the latter, because the governor will do so at greater length. I had no desire to be so forthright in this matter as I was last year when I wrote to Your Highness.
