_ 268 _ Item: The fleet that is to remain in Aden will not fight or raid the Moorish ports of that coast without the permission and express order of the King of Aden. The Governor, D. João de Castro, accepted and approved this contract in the name of the high and mighty King of Portugal, his true lord and King, and undertook to observe and uphold it fully as it stands. For greater confirmation he swore by the Holy Gospels, laying his hands on a missal, and the said Emir Daud bin Ahmad, Ambassador of the great Sultan Muhammad bin Sheikh Ali, by virtue of his powers, and of his brothers Sheikh [Hocmex] bin Sheikh Ali and Sheikh Abdul Jabir, in the name of them all undertook that his lord the King and his brothers will observe and uphold fully this contract of peace and amity as it stands, and the King and all his brothers would swear it according to their religion before D. Alvaro de Castro, whom the Governor was sending for this purpose. Four copies will be made of this contract, two to remain in the hands of the Governor, sworn to and signed by the King of Aden and his brothers, one in Portuguese and the other in Arabic, and the other two will remain with the King of Aden, sworn in the same way, one in Arabic and the other in Portuguese.
