_ 288 _ Item: As soon as you anchor, you are to send the ambassador ashore; and when the King commands you to visit him, if he requests you to go ashore, you are to refuse, answering him that it is not the custom of the Portuguese, and that besides I have commanded you that you are not to leave your fleet except if His Highness is besieged by the Turks, for in that case you have instructions from me to go ashore with all the fighting men and do all that he commands you. Item: You are carrying two agreements, that is, one in Persian and the other in Arabic. The one in Arabic has already been signed by me, and this one is for the King to retain; the other, in Persian, he is to sign and swear, so that you can bring it back to me. You are likewise carrying two further agreements with the same content in Portuguese, one of them signed by me, which the King is to retain, and the other is to be signed and sworn by him and his brothers for you to bring back to me. On the day when you agree with the King the propositions to sign and swear with his brothers, you are to go ashore with all the fighting men of the fleet, and when they are drawn up with their arms, pikes and arquebuses, you are to enter the city with your banners,
