_ 314 _ In the same year (1548) A report was issued by Dom Alvaro de Castro, Canacani Islands, (Aden), on the 20th of March 1548, on the conditions in Aden:(75) On 27 March of this year D.António de Castro, who had sailed towards Aden to seek news of the capture of that city, D.João de Ataide, who came to the Gulf of Aden in command of three foists, and Aleixos Carvalho, who had gone to Ras-Arar as ambassador in another catur, all reached the Canacany Islands. They all brought news that Aden had been captured by the Turks and that there were sixteen sail, galleys and galliots there, and a fleet was expected from Suez, according to the information they had obtained from locals.
