_ 332 _ In the same year (1548) Dom João de Castro sent a letter to his son, Goa, on the 1st of May 1548, regarding his greeting:(81) D. Álvaro, my son, Tomorrow at two o’clock, God willing, you will leave Panjim to come here. As soon as you arrive off the city, you are to salute it with artillery, and the city will respond. When you disembark on the quay, you are to ask for the aldermen, who will be awaiting you here with the people of the city, and you will embrace them and treat them with much courtesy and respect. You are then to ask for the master craftsmen and embrace all four with great affection. Once this is done, you are to speak to all the citizens, embracing them and greeting them kindly, for they are all your great friends and mine. (81) Document no. and reference.
