_ 129 _ Tahmasp will incorporate the coastline into his lands. The Governor has sent an ambassador, and this was right. May it please God that the result of all this will be an increase in Your Highness’s estate. I met the Governor in this city of Cochin. As he was aware of the many honours and favours Your Highness did me in Portugal, he was glad to help me in every way, and to dispatch me so that I can go to Ormuz; this will be in about January. Last year I requested Your Highness to grant me the favour of ten horses free of dues, a favour similar to the one my father had granted me. The ruling has been issued to my father that he should grant me this favour. I shall kiss Your Highness’s hands if you grant me the favour of an instruction whereby it is your wish to grant me the favour [sic] of these ten horses in similar manner as you gave them to my father. The copy of the writ of this favour granted to my father is recorded in the Casa da India, and the favour that they should be free of dues in Goa, which gives much exemption, and they can be sent free of payment. I shall not expatiate further on this subject except that time will be my witness as to how much I shall serve Your Highness. Please be
