_ 148 _ to adopt the expedient that I proposed to the captain, which was to take me personally with several other companions like Your Lordship has there, as ransom for you and your family(A). I would have greater spiritual comfort, although it would be troublesome to the body, in being nearer to what I always desired to suffer for Christ. May He wish to console me in this respect, according to what will be to His greater glory. Therefore, be strong in Christ. If God is our stronghold(B), whom shall we fear?(C) He is the most powerful to defend us, whom no-one resisted. He is most wise to know our needs, He is the highest good for not [denying] them. As an example, He is with His arms outstretched on the tree of truth, on which he rose [so] high the better to see our weaknesses, saying: Whoever acknowledges me before men, shall I acknowledge him before my Father who is in heaven?
