And the said preacher, Gaspar, told the King of Ormuz that he would have to destroy the minaret and take over the mosque to use as Christian church, and also that they should close the minaret and to call aloud from any mosque but only inside them. This caused a great scandal. It happened while D. Manuel de Lima was still in office as captain, and they came to me with formal petitions to desist from such action until D. Alvaro de Noronha took over as captain. In response to the King of Ormuz and the leading personages submitted a written request for the minaret to be opened as was customary in the past and plaining the reasons why it caused offence. The captain replied to this, also in writing, saying that as the matter involved was very important, Your Highness would have to be informed so that the final decision would reflect whatever was in the best interests of God and you.
