One of them, a teacher from out of town, is not but does attend some classes. Another one wrote to me from Muscat, on the Arabian coast, that he wished to die roasted on a grill with me. He had 800 pardaus in cash(A), apart from other property, which he handed over to me, as you will see, in more detail, in the letter that he sent me(B), It is attached to this letter together with a copy of my reply to him. Finding myself hard pressed, I decided not to take more than twelve highly capable men from among the many others, until the college was finished. Because of the many jobs I have, I cannot attend to everything. I presumed that will would come to China with me, if the Father Rector considered it possible. It does not appear that he is inclined to abandon anyone who has such holy intentions.
