He wishes very much to go with me to China to die there for love of God. Another penitent was greatly moved by a sermon of a Father of our Society and after confession he undertook many penances. The Father spent much time with him, temporizing and not absolving him, because he felt he was still sinful. When the Father decided to give him absolution, he confessed that he was a heretic and had never been a Christian, and that he observed the Sabbath as well as Sunday, and thenceforward he continued in great virtue, the Lord be praised. So, I said from the pulpit that when my work left me a little time I would go from house to house to turn them out. Going into one house I found a man in bed with one of them, and I sat down beside them and did not go away. They were so embarrassed that they promised me that that would never happen again. Some men who had been living with concubines for a long time married them, and others married off their concubines, the Lord be praised.
