135 Following the take-over of Ras al-Khaimah by Sheikh Saqr bin Muhammad bin Salem al-Qasimi, Sheikh Sultan bin Salem al-Qasimi lived partly in Dubai, but used to spend most of his time in Sharjah. In the town of al-Menei’e, between Wadi Qur and Oman, he owned some housing quarters and palm farms. In the summer of 1948 around early July, when the palm-trees were ready for harvest, he moved to al-Menei’e. The Sharkah Political Agent, Jasim bin Muhammad al-Kazmawi, was informed of the move. He sent a telegram to the Political Agent, Bahrain, informing him that Sheikh Sultan bin Salemmoved his camp fromSharjah. The Political Agent in the Gulf thought that Sheikh Salem had taken with him a military force, and it would not be too long before he started creating problems, especially that he would be staying in al-Menei’e, on the way to Muscat. Previously, Sheikh Sultan bin Salem had been warned by the Sharjah Political Agent that unless he distanced himself completely from all activities threatening or destabilizing tribal security, he would be requested to reside away from the emirate’s coast. The relations between the English and the Sharjah Government represented in Sheikh Sultan bin Saqr were bad throughout the year 1947. The British authorities used all available means to get Sheikh Sultan bin Saqr to approve the renewal of the agreement regarding Sharjah Air Station which was for civil aviation.
