The first few lines read: Greet the Shabab, Greet al-Tahir, the noble hero Greet Jihad, greet knowledge and hard work, Great Arabism and the faith alive in the hear of a man (i.e., al-Tahir) Greet his bravery, ethics and principles; Greet the steadfastness, and every noble moral; Greet the defiance, and the complete manifestation of Glory. Such, Sharjah was throughout the months of November 1938/ .9 Lieutenant Colonel Fowle boarded the HMS Fowey in Bahrain at 09.30 AMonTuesday 30November 1938and sailedoff at 10.00AM.He arrivedat Sharjah onWednesday, 1 December 1939 at 3.00 PM. The Sharjah Political Agent went on board followed by Sheikh Sultan bin Saqr al-Qasimi, to greet the Political Resident in the Gulf. A while later, the Political Agent got off, and a short while later, Sheikh Sultan bin Saqr followed and was greeted by 5 ceremonial shots fired in his honour as he departed from the ship. The Political Resident in the Gulf and the Sharjah Political Agent reciprocated the visit immediately. Thirteen ceremonial shots were fired as the Political resident disembarked from the ship. On that day, Sharjah shook with eighteen cannon shots and the smoke filled its sky. It looked as if the English were saying “we are here”.
