His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Kalba, chaired the University’s Board of Trustees meeting on Monday morning at the university’s headquarters. His Highness praised the board’s efforts and achievements in elevating the university’s standing among institutions offering similar programmes. He affirmed that these accomplishments reflect a clear vision and well-planned strategy for qualifying national talents, fostering a stimulating academic environment that supports research and meets community needs.
His Highness emphasised the importance of attracting distinguished academic and administrative talent to enhance student performance and academic outcomes. He highlighted the need for integration among colleges to strengthen the educational and research ecosystem, providing students with broader opportunities to gain diverse skills and knowledge. He noted that such integration forms a key pillar in developing a progressive academic environment that nurtures creativity, innovation, and community service, wishing students continued success in their studies.
The board discussed several agenda items related to university performance, specialised committees, and the expansion of academic offerings. It approved the introduction of new programmes, pending technical and accreditation requirements, to be launched in the 2026–2027 academic year.
Dr Najwa Al Hosani, Director of the University of Kalba, presented a report highlighting the university’s achievements over the past academic year in academic development, research enhancement, community service, and digital transformation.
The board reviewed reports and recommendations from its specialised committees — Academic, Financial, Compliance and Internal Audit, and Financial Resource Development — and approved several developmental initiatives to support the university’s future progress.
Following the meeting, His Highness inaugurated the University of Kalba Library’s new website, launched as part of the university’s digital transformation drive to expand access to academic and research resources. The site offers access to more than 400,000 electronic journals and 300,000 digital books, as well as global databases such as EBSCO, ProQuest, and Emerald, thereby strengthening the university’s research and learning environment.
His Highness also reviewed several innovative and sports-related student projects that demonstrated creativity, knowledge application, and civic engagement. He listened to students’ presentations on their projects and praised their dedication and achievements, as well as the faculty and administrative staff’s efforts in supporting community-driven initiatives that enhance Sharjah’s reputation as a hub of creativity and knowledge. The Ruler was briefed on students’ awards, medals, and international accomplishments, where they secured top rankings for their inventions and innovations. Students expressed gratitude for His Highness’s continuous support and for the university’s provision of advanced facilities enabling them to turn ideas into tangible achievements that brought pride to both the university and Sharjah.
