This is the fifteenth show, of the “Nimrod” play by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. It was directed by the Tunisian playwright Moncef Souissi on international stages belonging to the father of arts in which His Highness said … «through my readings in theater, from the time of the ancient Greeks to the present day, I have realized the magic inherent in the worlds of theater. Similarly, in probing the depths of the human soul and its components as well as revealing its secrets. I have therefore established a wide conviction that theater constitutes a unifying factor for humanity in which a person can embrace the world with love and peace”.

The performance of "Nimrod" came two days ago on the stage of the Gorky Theater in Moscow. It is one of the most historical and ancient theaters in Russia. This was partly due to Sharjah’s selection as a distinguished guest at the Moscow Book Fair. This is an occasion to discuss this play that roamed many ancient stages of the world. His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah wrote it in 2008, and in the same year it was shown by the Sharjah National Theater at the beginning of the Sharjah Theatrical Days season. Moreover, during this decade the “Nimrod” play has always been present on European and Arab theaters whose visitors are educated in theater before being spectators in love with it. The play was shown In Britain, Ireland, Tunis, the Toronto Theater in Canada, the National Theater in Cairo and Alexandria, the Three Cultures Theater in Seville, the Latina Theater in Madrid. It had also been played in the Romanian city of Sibiu’s Taya Hall, the Palladium in the Swedish city of Malmo, in the German city of Karlsruhe, at the invitation of the Tianzua Dialog Theater, along with the Samuel Beckett Theater at the National Academy of Dramatic Arts in Dublin. In addition to these international performances of “Nimrod” play, it has been also translated into Russian, and other active languages in the world. Furthermore, every time this play is presented, it attracts a qualitative viewer and delivers to him the message of the show. Enabling him to comprehend it with ease. However, why "Nimrod"? what is the human, intellectual and historical content on which it is based, which makes it a renewed global show from one ancient stage to another in cultural environments that respect the theatre?

The answer líes in the words of the text and is observable when contemplated. When man abandons his humanity, then he turns into a tyrant. Nimrod is also surrounded by a retinue that almost resemble him when it comes to tyranny. Their chief in tyranny, Nimroud, thinks with a hateful heart and a criminal mind. In a hellish moment, Nimrod tells his entourage: “Neither the eagles were able to get me to the heavens, nor the Tower of Babel was able to lift me there ... but, I will fight that Lord on earth; among the people by stirring up a front of mockery and ridicule of that Lord”. However, every oppression, tyranny and arrogance always have a hideous end; a small mosquito brought down the tyrant. In this sense, the play is universal, destined towards humanity from the moment it was written. Along with all of its projections which reflects the facts in our world.
