The 2014 was the year of Sharjah in all standards in terms of the number of cultural events, activities and projects that witnessed by Sharjah under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, "may God protect him". More than 100 activities and 24 important projects including heritage, cultural, tourist and developmental projects, which coincided with the coronation of Sharjah as the Islamic Culture Capital. The Sharjah has deserved this selection and title, as a result of its incessant and genuine efforts in cultural development and its role to maintain the Islamic identity, forming an entirety achievement that is essential for present and future generations and contributes to the consolidation of Sharjah’s position in cultural and historical levels.
The cultural movement in the Emirate of Sharjah continues in the approach outlined by His Highness Ruler of Sharjah and that makes Sharjah the focus of attention and an important destination for education and culture.

Ruler of Sharjah issues Amiri decree to establish Arab Forum for Publishers of Children Books
On 1st of January, H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued an Amiri decree establishing the Arab Forum for Publishers of Children Books.
Ruler of Sharjah attends ceremony of Sharjah Arab Photo Forum
On 5th of January, H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has attended, at the American University of Sharjah, the 3rd edition of the Sharjah Arab Photo Forum which was held under the patronage of His Highness and organized by the Arab Union of Photographers.

On 18th of January, H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of University of Sharjah (UOS), has directed an advanced wireless internet services network to be available free of charge for faculty members, students and visitors of different universities and institutions in the city.
Sultan announces establishment of theatre’s fund
On 11th of January, H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of Arab Theatre Authority, has announced the establishment of a fund which he will finance to help theatre artists. He also called for holding an annual forum for the artists to tackle issues relating to Arab theatre.

Sultan Al Qasimi reduces UOS’s tuition fees in Khorfakkan, Kalbaa by 25 percent
On 25th of February, H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of University of Sharjah (UOS), has ordered the reduction of tuition fees of the University in the cities of Khorfakkan and Kalbaa in the eastern region by 25 percent.

Sultan: Mosque no. 1000 in Sharjah to open at end of this year
On 2nd of April, H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has instructed that each calligraphy shop in the emirate to have an approved “Calligrapher” by Department of Culture and Information in Sharjah. He has also announced that a grand mosque, located in Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed road nearby the emirate’s entrance, will be opened at the end of this year, to reach 1,000 mosques built in the emirate.
Sultan receives artists participated in the oratorio Clusters of Lights
On 2nd of April, H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has praised the performance of oratorio “Clusters of Lights” that is based on the biography of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), from his birth until his death. He also congratulated the teams and their success, commending their great efforts. The oratorio, which portrays the beginnings of Islam through poetry, music, drama and dazzling audiovisual effects.
This statement was during his highness’s meeting with artists and teams of this great performance and show “Clusters of Lights” at his palace.
Ruler of Sharjah opens Calligraphy Biennial as part of celebrations of Islamic Capital of Culture
On 3rd of April, H.H. Ruler of Sharjah has opened the 6th Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial, in the heart of Sharjah, as part of the celebrations of naming Sharjah as the Islamic Capital of culture for 2014. He has also opened the Verses Gallery of arts linear collection group owned by Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC).
Sultan opens activities of 12th Sharjah Heritage Days
On 6th of April, H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has opened the activities of 12th Sharjah Heritage Days, in the Heritage Area, as part of the celebrations of naming Sharjah as the Islamic Capital of culture for 2014.

Sultan opens 6th Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival

Ruler of Sharjah gifts 4000 books to Egyptian Scientific Academy which burned down in 2011

Sultan approves AED 727 million budget for University of Sharjah
On 11th of August, H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and President of University of Sharjah (UOS), has approved a AED727 million budget for the university’s 2014-2015 academic year, an increase of 30% from the previous budget for the current academic year 2013-2014. The club is equipped with state-of-the-art shooting sports equipment and facilities. Sultan orders comprehensive health insurance for UOS students
On 20th of November, H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah and President of University of Sharjah (UOS), has ordered that comprehensive health insurance be provided to the university students who have no health insurance. The move is based on Sheikh Sultan’s keenness on providing comprehensive healthcare to national and resident university students.

On 29th of November, Under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the Higher Committee of the Heart of Sharjah’s bid to be entered on the list of World Heritage Sites by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced updating the bid submitted by Sharjah to the UNESCO World Heritage Centre. The new title of the bid is "Sharjah, a Gateway to Trucial States" instead of "Heart of Sharjah".

Sultan opens Sharjah Heritage Institute
On 14th of December, H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has opened at Sharjah University City, the Sharjah Heritage Institute (SHI), which houses ICCROM-ATHAR (Architectural and Archaeological Tangible Heritage in the Arab Region), a regional conservation centre founded by the Rome-based ICCROM.
Sultan Al Qasimi attends UNESCO's celebration of World Arabic Language Day
