Sultan.. a Noble Moral Cultural Stance

A new phase and a better life. The Egyptian artists and celebrities are no longer apprehensive, at the later stages of their life of cold, hunger and malady. No lonely sidewalk nor humiliation at old age. For the rest of their lives, they now have a shelter, a doctor and a library. It is a decent life befitting a person who has come to know art and beauty.

Honored by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, a care center for the elderly Egyptian artists is established and a financial deposit to run the affairs of the home is allocated. It is an ethical and cultural position stemming from noble values. His Highness is familiar with Egypt and its intellectuals, writers, and artists. He comprehends that some Egyptian artists, who maybe of age now, had once sacrificed their youth to the country and to the Arab people who came to know cinema and theater from Egypt, and from the artists of Egypt.

Egypt is in the heart of His Highness, Ruler of Sharjah. Egpyt is the place of his primary cultural, intellectual and literary formation as he attended university there. His Highness had seen these artists when they were youthful, either in universities, theaters, or on cultural occasions and did not escape his memory. Hence, his honorary action is spontaneous, with a nobility of a benefactor, and with a transparency of the generous.

Today, the Egyptian artist, who may feel the challenge of time and fate, is reassured that there is a heart with him, and a hand that is tender in old age. As it also a period where a person heals spiritually through a purity.

We say this while the Egyptian memory preserves the names of artists, actors, poets and writers. The sidewalk was their harsh shelter at the end of their lives. They passed away, went insane, or lost their memory as a result of neglect and inequity, in Egypt and the entire Arab and non-Arab world. Cruelty has no nationality.

The honorary act of His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, to the elderly artists and celebrities of Egypt, is a reconsideration of the human being. It is a respect by an intellectual ruler for the history of art accomplished by those who need such a dignified stay in a house that preserves the dignity and human meaning of the human being.

It could be described as a cultural and a humanitarian assignment, that integrates with the natural and legal status of the artists’ unions which see that they need this honorable family home in Egypt. A country of love, kindness, and good spirit.
